The Sotol Agave is found in the south-western US & Mexico. It has saw-toothed leaves and tiny flowers on its tall flower spike and blooms in the summer.
Agaves were one of the most important plant groups among the Indians in the Southwest. Agave fibers were used to make bowstrings, brushes, nets, slings, shoes, ropes and thread. The agave leaves, flowers stalks and seeds can be eaten after proper preparation, although some varieties are poisonous.
After the blooms have died, the stalk becomes hard and strong and can be used as tools or walking sticks such as these. Although they are extremely lightweight, they are very strong and sturdy.

A general guideline for sizing a stick: with your arms hanging freely at your sides, the stick should come to some point between the elbow and shoulder. It's really a matter of preference though, many people prefer a walking stick that is taller than their shoulder or lower than their elbow.
Children's walking sticks can be from 28 to 50 inches in length.
28 to 40 inches $20
41 to 50 inches $25
Small adult walking sticks can be from 45 to 52 inches in length.
45 to 52 inches $30
Custom adult sticks range from 52 to 68 inches in length.
53 to 59 inches $35
